Modafinil is sometimes prescribed by doctors for certain medical problems, teens shouldn't usually take it. Adults with sleep problems are mostly approved to take modafinil. Its safety and effectiveness in teens have not been studied thoroughly.

While teens are still growing, their bodies and brains may react differently to drugs like Modafinil because they are more sensitive to their affects. Even more, not much is known about the long-term effects of using Modafinil as a teen.

Parents should take their teens to a doctor right away if they are having trouble sleeping or are too sleepy during the day. The doctor can do a full review and suggest the best way to help. As a first step, teens who are having trouble sleeping should focus on non-drug solutions like improving their sleep hygiene, setting up normal sleep schedules, and dealing with any underlying health problems.

Modafinil is not well known to be safe for teenagers. It's mostly given to people who have trouble sleeping. Teenagers should carefully think about and be watched by a doctor before using it because it could affect their growing brains and there hasn't been enough study on safety.
